These terms set out what you may do with Shutter Trail's written routes, annotated maps, and seasonal light notes, and what we ask from you in return. They apply to every reader, contributor, and traveler who uses the magazine.
You are welcome to walk our routes on your own photography trips, print the annotated maps for personal use, and adapt the timing to your own schedule. The files are written for individual travelers, not for guided groups or commercial tours.
Short passages may be quoted in reviews, classroom notes, or personal blogs when you name Shutter Trail and link back to the original page. Republishing a full location file, reselling our map annotations, or using the magazine's name to promote tours, workshops, or paid photo walks is not permitted.
Train timetables, temple opening hours, tripod rules, and caretaker policies shift without notice, and sometimes between seasons. We check our notes before publishing, but you should confirm locally before you travel. We cannot take responsibility for a closed gate, a new restriction, or a missed connection.
Every photograph on this site belongs to the person who made it. Contributors keep full copyright of their work, and nothing on Shutter Trail grants you a licence to reproduce their images. If you want to use a picture, ask the photographer directly.
Keep comments and location pitches relevant to photography in Japan. We edit for clarity and length, and we may decline a submission that reads as promotion, gear advertising, or unrelated material. Contributors are responsible for the accuracy of what they send us.
We update these terms when our practices change, and the revised version takes effect the day it is posted on this page. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the new wording. Legal questions can be sent to info@photographyinjapan.com.
